If you’re seeking a delightful culinary experience in Oakland, look no further than Bacheesos, a vibrant gem located at 246 Grand Ave. This inviting restaurant specializes in Iranian cuisine, offering a warm embrace of flavors that transport you straight to the heart of Persia.

Step inside and you're met with an expansive space, complete with ample indoor seating and a charming patio that overlooks a picturesque park. The atmosphere is enlivened by the gentle hum of conversation and, on special occasions, live music that creates the perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal. The staff here are notably friendly and attentive, ensuring every visit feels personal and welcoming.

The real star of Bacheesos is undoubtedly the food. Diners rave about delightfully vegetarian offerings like the dolmas, which are bursting with flavor, and the Mastokhiar, a rich, thick yogurt whipped to perfection with herbs and raisins—a dish that beautifully balances savory and sweet. The Sabzi bread paired with fresh herbs, Turkish feta, and walnuts is another must-try, harmoniously combining textures and tastes that elevate each bite.

For those with a penchant for heartier dishes, the Ghormehs showcases the depth of Iranian culinary art—slow-cooked and rich, you can almost taste the love that goes into every preparation. Diners like Phil Dorian appreciate the buffet selections, praising the assortment of Mediterranean favorites that cater to all appetites, making Bacheesos a great spot to explore a variety of tastes.

While some reviews mention a desire for slightly more seasoning, such as a touch more salt to enhance the flavors, others have found the pomegranate lemonade to be a refreshing complement that reverses any culinary misstep. Elizabeth Mello's enthusiasm for the weekend brunch buffet truly captures the essence of the place—fresh, flavorful dishes serve to create moments of joy and connection among friends and family.

Whether you’re popping in for a casual weeknight dinner, a lively brunch with friends, or simply to savor a quiet moment on the patio, Bacheesos has an abundance of appeal. The combination of a fantastic menu, homey atmosphere, and congenial service makes every visit memorable. So, grab your loved ones and head over to Bacheesos, where a delightful Iranian feast awaits to entice your palate and warm your heart.

We were lucky. As the only patrons on a Thursday evening, we received the pick of the tables and doting service. We really enjoyed the Iranian food here. Having ordered exclusively vegetarian items everything was delightful. Recommend the following: dolmas Mast-o-khiar (thick yogurt whipped w herbs & raisins) Sabzi - bread w/herbs, turkish feta & walnuts ( worked well with the khiar ) Ghormeh-sabzi (vegan) which is apparently a 2000 year old dish…made fresh of course. Also, the pomegranate lemonade was fantastic! Will come back!

Food was delicious here. Tried a few things so I’m excited to try some new dishes later. The only thing I could say I would have liked, was there being a little more salt in both dishes. I added it and it changed it for me. The pomegranate lemonade was amazing. Overall, I can’t wait to go back and visit.

I feel this falls between 3.5-4 stars! We had been meaning to try out Bacheesos and so happy we finally had the chance today! Place is really big with ample indoor seating, bar area as well as few tables outside! Staff is super friendly and helpful - kudos! Place itself is nice but could be bit cleaner. Food was really good, wouldn't say spectacular but really good food for the portions and price. Can't beat $15 per head for buffet! We tried almost everything starting with their salad bar and then main course. Loved the tzatziki, dolma and cabbage salad. From the main course would give high scores to the chicken, lamb, rice and chickpeas though I believe their buffet changes every week. I wish they had better dessert choices though... Overall pretty good experience and great place to have in the neighbourhood when in the mood for buffet!

Nice place, especially the patio in front of the park. The service was awfully slow (although nice), but the food was rather good, especially the lamb, which was delicious, and the baklava, quite atypical (served hot, very fresh, homemade).

I love this place, I enjoy both of their locations in the East Bay area. I love coming here for the buffet, great selection of Mediterranean favorites and a other popular dishes that I have had one to many times over enjoyed. Come with a big appetite because your going to need it for the buffet.
